In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, our thoughts and prayers are with the millions of families affected by this unprecedented national disaster. The safety of our associates, members and customers who live in the region has been our first priority and we’re committed to helping these strong communities recover.
American Red Cross Fundraising: We’ve teamed up with the American Red Cross to help raise critical funds to support families impacted by Hurricane Harvey:
- In stores: At all Sears and Kmart stores nationwide, members and customers can make a donation when they check out, with 100 percent of the funds going to the American Red Cross’ Hurricane Harvey efforts (through Sept. 16).
- Online: Visitors to our ecommerce sites, including Sears.com, Kmart.com, SearsAuto.com and ShopYourWay.com can donate to the American Red Cross via links to the Sears Holdings Corporation microsite.
All stores now open: While the storm forced the temporary closure of dozens of our stores and facilities, we’re extraordinarily proud of our teams who have worked so hard to re-open these locations as soon as it was safe to do so. As of Saturday, all affected Sears and Kmart stores are now open to serve these impacted communities and help in the recovery and rebuilding process.
Recovery/Rebuilding Supplies Available: In advance of the storm, our logistics team moved inventory of critical items to local distribution centers and stores that could receive them. As soon as roads cleared, fleets of additional supply trucks have been rolling in to replenish inventories of critical items to our area stores. Truckloads of bottled water and supplies – thousands of generators, wet/dry vacs, pressure washers, dehumidifiers, fans, air conditions, chain saws, gas cans, batteries, flashlights, cleaning supplies and more – have arrived in the impacted region.
Supporting Impacted Associates: Although many of our area associates have suffered property damage, we are thankful that we have accounted for all of our associates and that they are safe. We are supporting these impacted associates in various ways:
- Company-Sponsored Relief for Associates: The Sears Holdings Associate Disaster Relief Program assists our associates who have suffered significant personal loss due to natural and personal disasters. We are working through this program to assist our colleagues who have been significantly impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
- Associate-to-Associate Relief: Sears Holdings has implemented its “SHC Associates Helping Associates” program to accept donations for our impacted team members. Under this program, associates can make donations to help their colleagues and their families. This program is in addition to our ongoing corporate efforts under the Disaster Relief Program.
Assisting FEMA/Emergency Operations: Sears Holdings’ Enterprise Security and Crisis Management Team worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and offered the parking lot of our Sears store at the Central Mall in the severely impacted area of Port Arthur, Texas, as a staging area. Additionally, we worked with FEMA and emergency responders to convert a recently closed Sears Auto Center location into a field hospital to treat injured area residents. We will continue to find ways we can use our company’s assets and resources to agencies and volunteers however we can.
In the coming days we will share additional updates on actions we are taking to help Southeast Texas and Louisiana.
We are here for you. Together, we will recover and rebuild.
