Sears Home Services has an ambitious vision for 2014 that includes working directly with our non-profit partner Rebuilding Together and engaging our Home Services associates in a national volunteerism campaign. This week we launched Building Community Together in Tampa Heights, Fla. where we had an opportunity to volunteer as a team and demonstrate our commitment to give back to our members and their communities.
We kicked off our first event on Feb. 11, 2014, in Tampa with DIY expert and TV Home Improvement guru, Ty Pennington and our entire leadership team renovating an empty church into a new and improved community center. Our Sears Home Services business teams provided in-kind material donations and labor to tackle some of the biggest renovation needs, such as: electrical, plumbing, flooring installation, doors, windows and more. We also had tremendous support and donations from our other business teams. We were proud to showcase our partnerships at the community center with great product displays from Craftsman tools, Kmart Pharmacy and other Sears business units including: Outdoor Living, Home Fashions and Tools/Lawn & Garden. The products that these teams provided will help to transform the building into a warm, inviting and functional space that can be used for decades.
As part of our company’s culture, Sears associates embrace hard work and trust, authenticity, showing pride, taking accountability and more. This week’s event gave us the opportunity to put those principles into action in a way that tangibly benefits a community in need. It’s a wonderful representation of what our company is truly all about.
For decades, our Home Services organization has successfully connected millions of consumers and businesses to solutions that have improved their homes and lives. We’ll continue this work as we prepare for similar volunteer projects in Chicago, Sacramento, Calif., Philadelphia and other locations nationwide.
