I recently had the privilege of sharing with associates that I’m proud to work for a company that isn’t afraid to transform. With the pride that I have for Sears Holdings, focusing on my best comes naturally, whether that’s in building relationships with those who I work with, helping our members or explaining our company’s transformation to my family and friends. I shop our stores and I’m always willing to help out a member while I’m there. The work that I do in marketing, technology and operations touches our stores and our members. It’s important that I understand what we’re doing well and how I can help improve the member experience.
Sears Holdings’ most important goal in 2016 is returning the company to profitability. Internally, we talk about “Focusing on Our Best” to support that goal – focusing on our Best Members, our Best Stores and Our Best Categories. Associates also apply the mantra to themselves: how can I focus on my best? My team and I are constantly focused on doing our Best to support this goal.
When you’re going through transformation, you have to understand what the company is trying to achieve. We’re doing amazing, innovative work and we’re scaling our organization for the future. There are a lot of critics who want to see us fail or don’t understand what we are trying to achieve. You have to block out that noise, hunker down and focus on what you’re trying to accomplish. I give that advice to everyone I work with. It might seem obvious, but when you get to work on the tasks that support the company’s transformation, you know you’re making an impact and adding value.
