Sears Holdings celebrated Memorial Day on Wednesday, May 23 at its corporate headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, with a commemorative wreath laying ceremony presented by the SHC’s Associate Military Support Network (AMSN). The ceremony honored Gold Star families and included a band, USMC color guard, as well as a guest speaker Robert Lewis, program coordinator for the Illinois Hires Heroes Consortium, Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs.
Immediately following the event, hundreds of SHC associates contributed thousands of brush strokes to create American flag paintings that will be presented to select veterans through Sears’ Heroes at Home Program this summer.
Sears and Rebuilding Together established Heroes at Home Program in 2007. Since then, the program has raised more than $23 million and has funded more than 1,700 home rebuilds for military families facing hardship.
This year, Sears and Rebuilding Together will again team up to change the lives of hundreds with more than three dozen rebuilds, including an apartment complex and Legion Community Post. Now through July 28, you can help rebuild the homes of veterans when you shop at Sears. At checkout, consider donating to our annual Heroes at Home campaign with Rebuilding Together, which will assist military families in need by making critical repairs and modifications to their homes.
Among the veterans we will be helping out this year include American Legion Union Port Post 1065 in New York City, Still Meadows Veteran Community in the Fort Meade Military Community and dozens of single family veteran or military family homes.
The rebuilds will enable veterans to have continued independence and safety within their homes. Larger projects such as the Legion will help deliver a space that will benefit the community with academic support and tutoring for the youth and workforce development training for veterans. The Fort Meade Military community rebuild will benefit close to 260 families alone.
Another way Sears is saying thank you to the military this week is with a limited-time enhanced military discount*. During Memorial Day week (May 24 to June 3), military and first responders can enjoy up to 40 percent off select product categories:
