Each January, thousands of members of the media join more than 150,000 attendees to see the sights, sounds and innovations that are unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Two primary themes and trends that emerged at CES 2018 were the smart home and voice control (a.k.a. “Alexa…”) – and both are areas of focus for Sears Holdings.
More than 60 journalists — from outlets such as CNET, The Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, Wired, Consumer Reports, Tech Crunch, Fox National News, Wirecutter and Good Housekeeping — stopped by our exhibits at the Pepcom Digital Experience, where they were treated to demonstrations of:
- The Wally smart sensor and Rapid Response service
- The latest Kenmore Elite smart laundry and dishwasher products, which are Alexa-enabled;
- TechTalk, a smartphone app that allows Home Services technicians, faced with complex or tricky appliance problems, to get diagnostic assistance in real time.
- Craftsman smart meter products
The Kenmore app enables owners to control their washer and dryer, remotely starting cycles. So you can load the washer before leaving the house and start it before you get home and the laundry will be ready to throw into the dryer. You can also monitor the status of the laundry cycle so you know when it’s finished and receive maintenance reminders to help keep your machine running smoothly. The Kenmore Elite smart dishwasher offers the same conveniences – to remotely monitor the progress of the dishwasher cycle, download new cycles and start or stop it from your Kenmore app. The Kenmore smart laundry and dishwasher products are Amazon Alexa enabled, so owners can control their appliance using their voice via their Amazon Echo device.
“This isn’t just about a single smart appliance,” said Peter Boutros, CMO and Head of International for KCD Brands. “It’s about the connected lifestyle. Our goal is to be a leader in the Connected Home and make our customers’ lives easier – providing peace of mind, convenience and efficiencies,” he added.
“Our Wally products and Rapid Response service is focused on where Sears has a strength – appliances and our home services business. We’re solving painful home related problems in a practical way,” added Ryan Ciovacco, President of Connected Solutions for Sears Home Services.
SHC also was represented on the TWICE magazine roundtable by Peter Boutros, Chief Marketing Officer and Head of International for KCD. Peter discussed the state of the smart home and connected living and highlighted Kenmore smart appliances, Kenmore at Amazon, Wally and Rapid Response Look for that Q&A in an upcoming issue of TWICE.
